What stems are good for

An honest note on quality

Neural separation is not the original multitrack recording: each stem is estimated from the finished mix. On most songs the stems sound clean in context; on dense mixes, faint artifacts or a little bleed between instruments can remain, and they are most audible when a stem plays on its own. Guitars, keys, synths and strings all go to the “other” stem.

Next steps

Which stems do I get?

Four WAV files in a zip: vocals, drums, bass, and other (guitars, keys, synths and everything else). In the vocals + instrumental mode you get two files: the vocals and everything except the vocals.

Do I need an account?

For 4 stems, yes: a free account gets 3 separations a day, 4 stems included. The vocals + instrumental mode also works without an account, 2 songs a day.

What does it cost beyond the free limit?

1 credit per song, charged only when the separation succeeds. A failed run is not charged.

How long does it take?

Processing time grows with the length of the song, and a busy queue adds a wait.

Can I make a drumless or bassless version?

Yes. Split the song into 4 stems, then mix the stems you want in any audio editor or DAW: leave out the drums for a drumless track, or leave out the bass for a bassless one.

Are the stems as good as the original multitracks?

No. Neural separation estimates each instrument from the finished mix. On dense mixes, faint artifacts or a little bleed between stems can remain, most audible when a stem plays alone.

How long are the stems kept?

24 hours, then they are deleted. Download the zip before then.
